Frequently asked questions
Do I need prior knowledge?
No. To start, your tutor has a short placement chat with you in your native language and finds out what you already know. Complete beginners start with guided foundation lessons — one word at a time — everyone else goes straight to conversations at their level. The language guide shows you beforehand how the language is built: script, sentence structure, politeness — with examples and transliteration.
Can I practise listening and reading too?
Yes. Under “Stories” the AI writes short stories at your level on a topic you choose. Have them read aloud by a male voice, translate any sentence, repeat sentences and get feedback on your pronunciation, save new words to your vocabulary trainer and finish with a short quiz.
Can I learn several languages at once?
Yes. Add more languages any time and switch between them. Each language has its own level, words and progress — your streak counts for all of them together.
Why are sessions so short?
Short, regular speaking beats rare long lessons. Also, AI cost per minute grows with conversation length — short sessions keep your price low.
How are costs calculated?
We count the tokens Google Gemini bills, convert them to euros, add 50% and VAT, and take that from your credit. You see the breakdown after every session and in your account.
What happens when my starter credit is used up or has run out?
The starter credit comes once per account and is valid for 30 days after you sign up. After that you top up — from €5, with a bonus from €25. There's no subscription and no automatic charge: when your credit runs out, the session simply ends.
What happens to credit I don't use?
Bought credit never expires. You can have it paid back in your account at any time — pro rata to what you paid (a pack bonus is settled pro rata). If you don't use Limny for a year, we refund it by ourselves after letting you know by email.
Do I get anything for recommending Limny?
Yes. With your invitation link your friends get double starter credit, and for 3 months you get 10% of what they actually use on Limny every month, as credit.
What happens to my voice recordings?
Your voice is streamed to Google Gemini in real time and not stored by us. We only keep the text transcript so you can read your feedback.
Is there an app?
